Hvittensand used to be one of the most popular swimming spots in the Larviksfjord, and has been for several generations. The reason is the large amounts of white, fine sand in beautiful dunes that stretched far out into the fjord and turned into an impressive beach paradise – and then it's no wonder that Hvittensand has been named one of Norway's finest beaches. Hvittensand has been laid up by Lågen over the past 5,000 years.
Be warned
There is a warning against swimming on the river side due to the current and variable depth conditions. Swimming in the wrong place can be dangerous, so be careful!
Partially destroyed by the port facility
Today, what used to be a bustling beach life in the summer is almost gone. This is due to the expansion of the ferry and container port at Revet on the opposite side of the estuary, where large quantities of rock have been added to the area and caused the water to rise into Hvittensand.
The beach areas vary from year to year
The beach line also changes naturally from year to year. At most, it could be up to about 300 meters long and the beach area up to about ten metres.
Hiking trail close by
The coastal path between Østre Halsen and Gon passes the swimming area.
