Idyllic small town and Edvard Munch's summer house
Edvard Munch's summer residence is the city's main attraction, taking you on a journey into the world-famous artist's surroundings 100 years back in time. Everything inside the house is preserved as it was when Munch himself lived there, and painted several of his most famous motifs from Åsgårdstrand, among others. "The Girls On The Bridge" (1901), "Melancholy" (1892), "Stemmen" (1892), "Scream" (1892), "Shallow" (1895). The house is a single fishing house from the 1700s that Much bought in 1897 for 800 kr.
Munch's house is open all days during summer and is within a short walking distance from the marina. If you are walking along the waterfront, the house lies right after the Sail Association's premises.
