Ølbergholmen

Secluded site with beaches, grasslands and rocks
Could you imagine strolling through the woods and jump into a little paradise? On the southwest of the Eftang peninsula lies a beautiful open area with both north and south facing beaches. Total length of beach is 150 meters. Between the beaches is a huge green lawn and around there are huge rocks to climb.

The coastal path passes the beach
If you want to combine a visit to Ølbergholmen with a discovery along beautiful trails, you have the opportunity to follow the coastal trail from Eftang, which passes the bathing ground.

Facilities
Outdoor toilet and renovation.

Gon Beach

Beautiful bathing resort
Gonstranda (The Gon Beach) is a beautiful seaside resort in Gonsbukta on the eastern side of Larviksfjorden. Here you will find both nice sandy beach, green grassy areas and smooth seashore rocks to climb.

Facilities
There is a dive board on the rocks (3 meters) and a swim raft in the sea. Gonstranda has both toilets and garbage dumps, and on the camping site you will find a kiosk when the sunny weather gives you cravings for an ice cream or a refreshing soda.

Hvittensand Beach

Hvittensand used to be one of the most popular swimming spots in the Larviksfjord, and has been for several generations. The reason is the large amounts of white, fine sand in beautiful dunes that stretched far out into the fjord and turned into an impressive beach paradise – and then it's no wonder that Hvittensand has been named one of Norway's finest beaches. Hvittensand has been laid up by Lågen over the past 5,000 years.

Be warned

There is a warning against swimming on the river side due to the current and variable depth conditions. Swimming in the wrong place can be dangerous, so be careful!

Partially destroyed by the port facility

Today, what used to be a bustling beach life in the summer is almost gone. This is due to the expansion of the ferry and container port at Revet on the opposite side of the estuary, where large quantities of rock have been added to the area and caused the water to rise into Hvittensand.

The beach areas vary from year to year

The beach line also changes naturally from year to year. At most, it could be up to about 300 meters long and the beach area up to about ten metres.

Hiking trail close by

The coastal path between Østre Halsen and Gon passes the swimming area.

Facilities

There are rubbish bins on the beach, and along the coastal path there are also a toilet. Not accessible for wheelchair users.

Location: Inner on the east side of Larviksfjorden, Larvik municipality, Vestfold.

Access: Follow the coastal path. Not accessible to the disabled.

Here they are listed:

Stolpestadstranda

Somewhat rocky and medium shallow sandy beach.

Anvikstranda

Great rocky cliffs and small sandy beaches. Family friendly. The Anvikstranda campsite is also located here. Anvikstranda is located in the middle between the larger swimming areas Stolpestad and Kjærstranda – in practice these 3 swimming areas are connected and form one beautiful beach.

Kjærstranda

Medium shallow, child-friendly sandy beach. Fine sand and 200 meters long. Good facilities.

Lydhusstranda

Narrow and shallow sandy beach with a bathing jetty. Good facilities.

Gea Norvegica UNESCO Global Geopark

In the season from May to September, there are free guided tours in the Geopark. The geopark is a limited area of 3.000 square kilometer and is in Telemark and Vestfold county, and includes the municipalities of Larvik, Bamble, Kragerø, Nome, Porsgrunn, Siljan and Skien.

At various geo-locations you can discover for yourself, and gain an increased understanding of, the dramatic events that have helped to shape the landscape.

The landscape in Larvik is characterized by the rugged landscape that a bedrock of larvikite often provides. Along the coast, the larvikite has been scoured by the ice that lay over the land during the last ice age. The result is the fine rocky cliffs that dominate the Vestfold coast.

Larvikite can only be found naturally in the Larvik area, and when you see this popular ornamental stone, cut and polished, with its beautiful play of blue colors on everything from wall facades on large buildings to worktops in kitchens and bar counters, you know it comes from Larvik. Larvikite is valued and in demand far beyond Norway's borders.

Herregården

The building was built in 1674 and was finished in 1677 just in time for Gyldenløve’s third wedding. “Herregården” stands as an example of continental 17th century baroque architecture in Norway, the building was also influenced by Norwegian building traditions. The building was protected in 1923, and it’s now a part of Larvik Museums.

In the east wing there’s a café that sells coffee and pancakes. And on the first floor there is remains of an old classroom as it once were used as a school.

The museum is open every day in summer season from the mid og June to the mid of August. With fun activities for families and a chance to experience the counts life. While walking around the building a guide will tell you all the stories of the counts.

Except the summer season, Herregården is open to the public by appointment. Events take place throughout the year, but only on special occasions in the winter.
