The maritime museum has the exhibition proud ships on world’s oceans which shows pictures and models of ships. With these pictures and models of ships you can see the different techniques, the dramatic and glorified illustrations of both sailboats and steamboats. There is a lot of exciting and dramatic stories about the ships and their destiny and the captains and their merits, that you can explore.
On the first floor the exhibition discoverers and adventurers take place. The exhibition displays 8 Larvikings that have challenged the ocean and the forces of nature more than most people. Their expeditions have had different purposes; some to prove a theory or to reach a goal, others for the pure excitement of an adventure. All of them have helped Larvik and Norway to get recognised. In the exhibition you will get to know Oscar Wisting, Thor Heyerdahl and Carl Anton Larsen.

The battle of Nesjar is looked upon as one of the most crucial sea battles in Norwegian history. Approximately 5000 men and 75 ships participated in the battle. Olav Haraldsson (Olaf the holy) won the battle against some of the most powerful chiefs of Svein Jarl. With this he ruled Norway, as the first king since Harald Fairhair. This laid the foundation for a structured state in Norway and the introduction of Christianity.
The battle of Nesjar is the first precise dated event in Norwegian history. Found in written sources such as "Heimskringla", "Fagerskinna", "Den legendariske Olavs-saga", "Flatøybok" and kvadet "Nesjarvisur" of Sigvat Skald. The battle of Nesjar was most likely located outside Værvågen/ ”behind” Mølen in Brunlanes.
